The Guttersnipe

What chance the guttersnipe, the thrower of stones?
The unfortunate poor hanger-on
Dragged up by the heels, no fault of their own
Tethered and told to belong

Is it Nurture or Nature or neither so free
Assumed in the length of a straw
When should the essence expect to decree
That it isn’t the luck of the draw

For the brat to the scallywag, the thrower of stones
Thoughts of our own and on through
Though many have flown from the path set in stone
For more it was all they could do
